HOW TO BUST OUT OF STAGNATION | 2019
Building and articulating one’s self identity in business can be slippery. As human beings we often seek variety and excess. We tend to over exaggerate about our abilities. We try to cover as many bases as we can in order to look intelligent amongst our peers. While ego and arrogance sometimes plays into these actions most of the time they arise out of fear. Fear that people around you will pick up on your weaknesses. Fear of feeling inferior to others whether it’s smarts, skillset or wisdom. Ultimately these actions lead to stagnation and you find yourself swimming alone.
I would argue though that even with the best of intentions, this will eventually lead to self destruction. It’s at this low point that we find ourselves falling back into self doubt and even less motivated then where we began.
FORGET "FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT."
Forget “fake it till you make it.” Be honest to yourself & others and “stick to your shtick.”
So before you dive into your next business venture or accept that new job position be a bit more introspective. Ask yourself…Does this opportunity line up with my strengths? Will this opportunity keep me happy and hard working? Should I pass the opportunity on to someone else so that individual can build a new connection? Or can I build a team that fills in the knowledge gap so I can provide value in a different way? If the answer is Yes to any of these then let go of your pride and stick to what you know. You’ll be surprised how quickly stress, anxiety and uncertainty will be relieved and self identity will begin to flourish.
